Ricky K. Taira is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Radiological Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA in 1982 and received his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1988.
After receiving his Ph.D., Professor Taira held a postdoctoral position in the Medical Imaging Division at UCLA from 1988 to 1989. In 1989 he became a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Department of Radiological Sciences, and then an Assistant Professor of the same department later that year.
Professor Taira received the Sylvia Greenfield Award in Medical Physics in 1978 from the UCLA Department of Radiological Sciences. In 1988, he won the Ralph and Marjorie Crump Award from the Crump Institute for Medical Engineers, the James T. Case Award from the UCLA Department of Radiological Sciences, and the first place award in the pre-doctoral student paper competition of the Society of Computer Applications in Medical Care.
He is currently a member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine and the Society of Photo-Optical and Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
